Oss Everyone!
With this year already in full swing, we are excited to have a full calendar of karate events that we are training for and can also look forward to. We will kick of with the Western Province JKA Championships held in Cape Town on the 9th of March. Winelands JKA will be well represented at the tournament and everyone in the dojo is already hard at work preparing for the tournament.
All karate-ka who perform well at the Western Province Champs stand a chance to be selected for the Western Province team to participate at the SA JKA National Championships held in Johannesburg on the 17th & 18Th of May. The SA Champs is of a very high standard every year and all the Winelands JKA karate-ka will be aiming to achieve their SA Colours.
The highlight tournament of the year is of course the Gichin Funakoshi Cup in Japan from 25-27 October. This is the ultimate tournament for practitioners of JKA Karate, equivalent to the “Olympic Games of Karate”. This tournament is normally held every 3 years and has been delayed to this year due to Covid lockdowns and restrictions.
Furthermore, the Western Cape if looking forward to hosting Shihan Okuma for a training seminar and gradings all the way to Godan (5th Dan) level, the first time that a JKA grading of this magnitude has taken place in the beautiful Cape. There will also be a Provincial Gasshuku, National Gasshuku, Allan Fourie Memorial Tournament, and plenty of other trainings to look forward to.
This year is truly going to be one for the (karate) books and all the instructors and karate-ka at Winelands JKA are truly excited! If you would like to be part of this amazing karate-year, come join us at Winelands JKA Karate in Durbanville and become part of our karate family!
